Seven Things You Need For Hydroponic Gardens
If you haven't heard of hydroponics, you probably have your own little garden outside of the house. But many people are actually looking into making indoor gardens and the best way to do this is to go the way of hydroponics.
Basically, hydroponics is a gardening method that allows you to grow plants and vegetables without using soil. All you really need is the right nutrients for the plants to grow. Of course, the sun and water are still needed so you can't really have a hydroponics garden inside a house that allows very little light inside.
If you are planning to practice hydroponics yourself, then you may want to know the basic things that you need to start you off. Here are some of those items that you need to purchase.
• A space – Since hydroponics doesn't need soil to grow plants, what you need is a space that allows a lot of sunlight. If you have a greenhouse, this is the best but you can also use a rooftop or even pitch a net-like tent. The important thing is that the space is large and therefore can act like the “grow room” that is needed for hydroponics to work.
• Temperature control unit – Since you are going to be doing this kind of gardening essentially indoors, you will need to simulate the kind of weather that plants need from the outdoors. It is therefore important that you be able to control the temperature inside your grow room. Thus, you will need some kind of temperature control unit installed in the grow room as well.
• Lights – The sun is not always available to us especially when it rains or when it's cloudy. But a hydroponics garden can still do well with special lights installed in the grow room. Advanced hydroponics gardeners usually use special blue and special green lights that are also known as spectrum lights. These lights actually speed up the process of plant growth.
• Nutrients – For the plants, you will most likely need a nutrient solution. The nutrients used are similar to the ones found in soil. This is what will help the plants grow quickly as well and in a simulated fashion just as they would in nature.
• Plant cubes – The cubes are areas where you will place the plants. This is also where the nutrients will be applied.
• Heating pad – Again, to simulate the way certain plants grow outside in the wild, you will need to control temperatures. One way to do this is to install heating pads that will simulate an environment similar to a garden during the day.
• Seeds – Lastly, you will need seeds to grow your plants. Now, you can't mix and match them since each seed has a different need in terms of nutrients and the amount of heat and light that is required for them to grow. Successful hydroponic gardens usually have tomatoes and potatoes growing in them but you can actually grow anything you like if you have the right knowledge.
